Limpopo Mobile Belt Projects

Botswana

  • The Limpopo Mobile Belt (‘LMB’) in eastern Botswana is a wide zone of continental collision traversing parts of Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa
Geology comprises sheared metamorphic gneisses of Archaean age enclosing mafic-ultramafic intrusive rocks which are prospective primarily for Ni-Cu massive sulphides
  • The African Pioneer Limpopo Licences (PLs 97 and 99/2020) are located close to the major Selebi Phikwe Ni-Cu mine (150Mt @ 1% Ni, 0.9% Cu) which closed in 2016
  • Several smaller deposits are being explored along this sector of the LMB, some of which also contain significant concentrations of platinum group elements
  • Limited previous exploration on African Pioneer tenements – both licences considered prospective; regional electromagnetic geophysical survey data is available for PL 99/2020
  • Work programme proposed includes soil sampling, trenching, geological mapping and geophysical data interpretation to identify drill targets
